I'm not a fan of swimming in the sea. I get freaked out when I cant feel solid ground under my feet, the thought of getting swept away by currents scare me, and I'm always paranoid of things like jellyfish stinging me
I love swimming in the ocean. I'm lucky enough to live near a lake, but it's definitely more fun swimming in the sea because of the waves. Makes me feel like a kid again.
I could be wrong but most people don't go that far into the sea that they can no longer touch the ground... or at least they're strongly advised not to, because of the danger of the currents
no the beach floor is gone like a third into the recommended, roped off area at most beaches ive been to lol but im in europe. lots of people venture beuond that as well for a good, nontourist packed stretch.
Swimming in the Mediterranean is bliss though. Obviously depends on where you are and weather conditions, but Mediterranean beaches tend to be calm and the water is very buoyant. I was in Mallorca recently and I just spent hours chilling in the water because it’s so lovely. Other types of beaches it can be scary though when super windy or intense, and I don’t love to swim in fresh water lakes because those seem more dangerous to me.
i'm fine with not seeing or touching the bottom if i can see the borders (i.e., a lake or river), but the side to side, top to bottom endlessness of the ocean freaks me OUT
