Love seeing this headline after I went out and bought a new box of condoms this morning lol. Glad for him it was just a scare.

I'm genuinely considering talking to my doc about getting a vasectomy but I don't know much about the procedure. I'm happily partnered with a cis man but we're open & I'm bi, so even playing safe outside my relationship... there's a <2% chance of becoming a dad that's always in the back of my mind.

Oh I'm always signing the praises of vasectomy - my husband had one. The procedure took maybe half an hour all in all, we took a taxi home, he took honestly like... Paracetamol after, and was up on his feet in no time (I want to say two days?). We both never looked back, and he's squeamish and has a low pain tolerance, so I was expecting much feeling about it, but he said he had worse dentist's appointments.

That's great to hear, thank you for sharing! My parents had my youngest sister despite using both birth control and condoms (a fun "birds and the bees" talk), and my uncle was similarly prolific, so. The threat of virility has always been there, makes sense to literally cut the cord lol

Ah yes, I see where you're coming from (sorry). I would absolutely talk to your doctor about it, it's a routine procedure and really a lot less invasive than you might fear, and the peace of mind is priceless.

Last phrase is exactly what my partner said.

I won’t ever need one but here in Mexico they’re free and basically beg men to have it done lmao, my cousin’s husband got one the last time they visited and it was quick, basically painless and had no complications.

It's one of the safest procedures out there from surgical perspective.
Most of macho-shmacho men focus on an blown out of proportion and context potential side-effect of loosing erections. It's hardly ever a problem in the absence of preexisting condition. If there was a preexisting condition, it needed to be treated, not ignored. And even if it happens, it's fixable. My partner complained that during the procedure it was easy to find a vas on one side, but not on the other, but even that was unpleasant, not painful.
I highly recommend!)
Please remember though, that nobody becomes infertile immediately, sperm-count needs to be performed to "clear" you for not using condoms anymore. Cause you know, in humans, it only takes one cell to do the job.
