There's one AU I followed where this person rewrote the ENTIRE series over like 8 years with proofreaders, as if James and Lily hadn't died. Added a trans character, elaborated on Lupin's otherness, i'm 90% sure they made James Indie.

It was great.

Not the same series. I am following a story where Harry falls into the vein and lands in a world where lily and James lived and has a son named Harry as well. The author doesn't villianize them. The two Harrys bond and deals with Harry's tramua. The point of this comment that author make them Indian as well. 😅

what they need to fix about those books is the stupidity of a whole magic race that doesn't help (as allies or enemies) with the wars or the colonialism, or how they still want and support enslaving people and creatures.

This reminds me that long ago I'd occasionally click on the names of people who commented on JL journals I'd be reading & found someone rewriting the SW movies (it was just the Originals & Prequels then) as if Obi-Wan & Padmé were the parents Luke & Leia. They raised them together and fought the Empire and Vader, keeping to the plot of the movies (changing a few things because of who was where when), except that big difference.
They had been working on it for like 5 years at that point. I wonder if they finished it.

Indian Harry potter and Black Hermione are really popular. About half the new HP fics I read have harry as Indian.

yeah i remember someone on tumblr did a random fancast of i think dev patel as harry and it really took off

And half of them are very fanon ships where the characters have never interacted (James/Regulus) or are NPCs (Dorcas Meadowes).
