I wish he would swallow his pride and work with a co-writer. He actually said he was going to do that but it was an April Fool’s joke. :/

I think we can assume at this point that if it's gonna be published at all, it won't be until after his death because he's likely terrified of the potential backlash if the mess that D&D made of the show is anything to go by. He's already said that he regrets making the kids so young in his book because he can't get them to grow up fast enough with everything that's happening simultaneously in Westeros.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if being forced to split and re-work what was originally the 4th book into two (FFC and DWD) killed all the momentum he had for The Winds of Winter, and the reception for the show's finale certainly wouldn't help.
