Ok, Oscar pundits of ONTD, hear me out.

Does anyone think Sing Sing given that it's had no marketing is gonna actually get a BP/best actor nom? And released in summer to no fanfare. It just feels like at this point that its just kind of existing. I'm interested in seeing it for sure, but why does everyone have it top of their forecasts right now?

eta Trap has previews starting in just a few hours and the embargo is still up?!

I haven't seen it yet, but this season is gonna be pretty weak, I think, so I am optimistic Colman will stay in the convo. Idk about BP, though.

I think they were trying to release it in the summer to give it breathing room from other Oscar fare in the fall (Past Lives and EEAAO also did this), but it isn't making as big of an impact as they may have hoped. My guess is that they will bring it back in theaters later in the fall to refresh people's memories.

I know it's A24, but it just doesn't feel at all like A24 is giving it anything. I thought for a second it was being released by one of those distributors that just doesn't give a fuck about awards/handles awards seasons badly *cough*Bleeker Street*cough*.

They do love nominating 'new' people two years in a row (not that he's actually new to acting, just in the awards convo), but IA that a small summer release is usually not a good sign. I would love it, tho!

lmao shit, that's a bad sign about Trap, but I'll be there at 6pm anyway. 🤓

Rotten Tomatoes has two reviews posted for Trap so far (one is an Australian reviewer, idk about the other one) but both are negative and yet RT says the 1.5/5 stars is fresh hahaha

eta: Apparently WB never told the critics what time the embargo lifted LMAO

While it is early, it didn't even go wide like EEAAO did, but that movie was more approachable. I get not wanting it to be swallowed up by other movies in the fall. They don't put out campaigns this early.

Well, as someone mentioned, this season doesn't appear to be the strongest so far, but there is still time. Gotta wait for the fall festivals to kick off and see where the chips land, but so far there doesn't seem to be an EEAAO this year (releasing early in the year to much acclaim and fanfare that keeps going through until fall).

I saw someone's extremely lengthy "who is in the conversation?" predictions post where they had almost 100 names for supporting actor for example, and someone I like was in the 80s and I am like...

colman will def campaign a lot and he'll very likely get a nom. but i think a complete unknown is def getting released this year in order for timothee to break the best actor record bc this year is his last chance. and acu will more likely have more money for campaigning. unless the movie is absolute trash i think timothee is above colman

i agree with what everyone else already said but wanted to add i’ve still been surprised by how muted the release is. it feels like a24 did some halfhearted promo when they could have sent colman out on an all-out charm offensive. maybe because it’s been a slow rollout? or maybe they just threw a lot of their marketing budget behind maxxxine lol, because it did feel like they did a lot for that (only for longlegs to overshadow it as the horror success of the summer).
