Could be like Tom Holland's last Spiderman. People loved the cameos of older characters. After the glow died down a few months later, some started to see that the plot wasn't much there.

I think you're right. Without the plot my friends said the fan service just felt empty.

I loved Andrew and Tobey showing up, but I could tell pretty early on that the rest of the movie was a mess. The plot was seriously infuriating and the big showdown at the end so lazy and creatively uninteresting.
