She will never be anywhere but BEC level for me. The fact that she can't be bothered to say anything about Palestine or about Kamala or about anything else is happening in the world, but will promote her friends' movie. It's of course not at all surprising at this point, but never not be infuriating from her and people like her

I don’t like to hold celebs to a standard where they need to speak out on issues. Some celebs prefer to be apolitical, and let’s be real, sometimes the less they say, the better. But I do understand that the influence a celeb has can sway people’s opinions. In Taylor’s case, I think her silence doesn’t stem from a wish to be apolitical, but rather her silence is out of fear of a backlash and a hit to her bottom line.

I think as long as it doesn't directly effect her or her bag, she doesn't care to know or to speak up. She will only speak up when it is convenient for her or beneficial. She also can't stand any sort of criticism whatsoever. But people were still giving her shit (and rightfully so) when she had her crappy Eras movie shown in Tel Aviv just after the Palestine genocide started happening just weeks before. And also how she handled Ana Clara Benevides' death was also once again very telling of her and her character.

I think bigger, billionaire-level celebrities who thrive on being worshipped by the masses don't get to be apolitical. The likes of Beyoncé/Jay Z, Taylor, Madonna, they have shows that are paid by taxpayer money (thinking for example Madonna here in Brazil), they pollute the Earth more than an entire nation combined... they don't "get" to exist silent because they are leeches. And it's funny cause I don't expect this from smaller celebrities with very little influence and yet they are the loudest ones (like Melissa Barrera)!

And you're right, Taylor's silence is also a way to "trick" her fans and the general audience into supporting her blindly. They may be enriching someone who's pro-genocide and they'll never know.

I am more or less fine (or I guess just silently judgy) on celebs not speaking up on certain things because I don’t really care about their opinions. However Swift has got her fans believing she’s some hardcore feminist and human rights activist so if she wants to pretend she is one (and made a whole doc about it) then she needs to step up.

I don't think they're "required" to speak up just because they're famous, but I also don't think they can have it both ways where they speak up when things affect them directly but not about other issues that are really huge stories without getting criticism. If you want to talk about stuff and get praised for ~activism~, go ahead. If you want to be quiet and only ever post work-related stuff and promo, cool. You can't really do both at the same time imo.
