Eight children, one husband, hundreds of acres beneath the enormous skies of the American west - and millions of social media followers. I spent the day with "trad wife" Hannah Neeleman, or Ballerina Farm, to figure out what all the fuss was about https://t.co/FapSYfq8id

Does this man even have a job? He's just out here cosplaying a self-reliant man while his wife does all the work? He has farm hands but she can't get a damn nanny for EIGHT kids??? I hate everything about this so much.

It’s a working farm, and he does the laundry

It says he was "overseeing" the work so zero real work for sure.

He is the son of a billionaire, he doesn't need to work. The irony when she says "he gave up his career" is that he never needed a career. Billionaire kids don't do shit unless they are naturally ambitious. They spend their lives spending money and yet never getting any poorer.

But he loves the cowboy cosplay and punishing her with housework and pregnancy, so that's mostly his job.

He's the heir to the JetBlue fortune, I think. So, he doesn't even need to cosplay self-reliant man.

Self-reliant in this case meaning he earns his own money through hard work. He does absolutely nothing.

The crazy thing is people have pretty much always had help around the house. People who act like being traditional means women do all the work don't know anything about history. Anyone who could afford to run a house had maids, servants, housekeepers etc.

this. the myth of a beautiful thin housewife who does it all is such a lie. women in pretty much all social classes had some form of help whether that was a laundry maid or live-in staff or family close by who would help out. women were never, ever meant to do everything on their own. the ones who did were often seriously unhappy in their small lives and/or deeply dissatisfied with ignorant husbands.

edit: or their kids (usually girls) were forced to leave school to contribute to keeping the household going /end edit

the history of domestic life needs to be more known if only to keep women from thinking there's a historical standard they can never measure up to.

they want to cosplay as poor people

even poorer people through history traditionally lived with/near family, so it would never be a case of the wife doing everything. women helped one another do tasks like bulk laundry, etc.

If they couldn't afford it, they had family. My mom was one of 10 kids and her maternal grandmother moved in specifically to help with the kids.
