I had a piece of shit head of department in uni tell me I could not take a summer course at university of toronto and was only allowed to take it at guelph or western because he had bad blood with u of t. Okay???? How is it my fault? This is my literal education and you’re playing games because of ~bad blood~. Who fucking cares about your feelings? And I needed to take the course in the summer because of health issues and I could not go to guelph or western as they were too far ahd i didn’t have a car! So i had to stress myself while dealing with health issues and take the course the following year on top of my 3rd year courses. Another time this same man held us hostage in class while he lost his shit and cried because we didn’t understand the lesson and he was jetlagged from paris. This man is revered in our field. For what reason, other than being a white man, I don’t know. I fucking hate him. This dude sounds the same. She was PAYING to attend who the fuck was he to expel her for something outside of the school and deny her sabbatical? Fucking men

God I remember I had an English professor who assigned his own book as the required text and if you wrote any dissenting opinions you wouldn’t get higher than a C. Like this is an English course bud! It’s like not like disagreeing with some scientific fact!

Luckily our head of department was a bad ass woman who had taught me before and knew I wasn’t a C student and let me drop the class without penalty. I did an independent study instead.

Professors assigning their own books for school should not be allowed. I had several profs do that too. It’s pretty much double dipping and exploiting young students. Glad your head of dept was reasonable and gave you a viable alternative
