His original comment sounds equal parts concerning and like when my friends forget their wallets on a night out and get dramatic. Glad he says he's okay, hope he actually is.

That's exactly what I think, he sounds like a teenager enjoying his freedom a bit too much. Hope his family will keep an eye on him, as this can go south very quickly.

Reminds me of the (upper) middle-class kids back in high school who got piercings, dyed their hair and pretended to be punks, loitering out in the streets, smoking, drinking, begging for money, and talking about anarchy! and fuck the system!!... One of them is still playing in a punk rock band, even though he joined a conservative political party and just built a giant house.

It's always good to keep an eye out on your kids, but he might just be living out his edgy 'rich kid wants to be ~real' phase.

A friend of mine once said she's practically homeless bc she has to rent a small room. I was like, girl you have a roof above your head. People who grow up in cozy conditions, just don't know how to adjust once they are on their own.

I’ve had so many friends, who aren’t “rich” but they never have to worry about money, say things like that. A former friend said she and her husband played a game “what would we do if we were homeless” like they were discussing a survivalist video game and another friend read an article about how an actress and her husband used boxes for furniture and slept on the floor on a studio when they first started out and she goes “oh that sounds so romantic” 😵‍💫

Easy to say when mommy and daddy can easily write a check (which they always did) when you need it!

The latter has actually become such a level headed, caring and hard worker though, but that comment has been engrained in my brain for the past 20 years.

I think I just needed to vent lol

Reminds me of a friend who was surprised my then husband and I couldn't get a down payment for a house by just asking our parents like she and her husband did. We're still friends but I think about that comment from time to time and shake my head.

Omgggg so frustrating! A friend had a similar incident. She’s single, so not even dual income, but her DINK friends received a down payment as a gift from one of the parents and they acted like *they* accomplished something and were wondering why she hasn’t bought anything yet 🙄

i still remember my friend complaining about """being poor""", while we were sitting in the apartment she had bought at 21 years old and we had just come back from a semi nice NYC holiday. Yes, at the moment she had no money and was stressed about it, but being BROKE is wayyy different from being poor.
