Some of it is the seeming total inability to make successful relationships compelling, especially on TV series. If it’s not the excitement of the chase or the drama of the relationship failing, writes don’t know what to do with the characters.

Yep. There's a reason why most people do not care that Daphne and Niles finally got together and were happily married. They tried with the "he takes her off a pedestal" angle but that can only go so far.

I know most people don't like TBBT and they did a bit of back and forth but I kind of liked how Penny and Leonard settled after a few series and they just had them be together.

Actually I think they settled all of their characters decently well, even though the coupling can be criticised, most of the leads were coupled up (2 with each other) without a lot of drama.

I think thats part of why I prefer a slow burn as at least there's less time to fuck things up if they're only together for a season or two.
