Emmy/Grammy-winner Bob Newhart passed away at age 94 this Thursday morning. He died in his LA home after a series of short illnesses.

A former accountant turned copywriter, he made the acquaintance of a WB records exec and landed a contract with them in 1959. His comedy album, The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart, sold immensely well, and in 1960 he won Grammys for Album of the Year and Best New Artist.

Following two more successful comedy albums, Newhart was offered a variety show in 1961. Exhausted by it, he then went back to performing in nightclubs and working on his acting with various tv guest spots. In 1972, he starred in the sitcom The Bob Newhart Show which ran until 1978. And then in 1982, he starred in a different sitcom, Newhart, which ran for eight seasons and whose series finale famously referenced his other previous long-running show. He continued to work in tv and film.

Newhart was married to Virginia "Ginny" Quinn from January 1963 until she passed away April 2023 at age 82. Newhart is survived by his four children and 10 grandchildren.
