This is only an issue if you smell bad which means you’re not cleaning yourself like you should. I don’t wear deodorant for the most part. I have these last few days bc we’re in a heat wave but for the most part, I don’t. I shower, I exfoliate there, I wash with benzoyl peroxide every day. This implication that not wearing it means you’re automatically unhygienic is weird. That being said, Matthew probably gets funky!

Yeah, I have never had stanky armpits after one day of being in an air conditioned office. I don't know what motivation people have pretending anyone who doesn't shower is a walking cesspool, though I fully believe McConaughey quickly stinks.

Yes, i did not wear a deodorant for roughly 3 years i breastfed my bbs. I spent most of the time in my home, not sweating much. I did not smell bad.

I wear it now because i bike and work out daily, but i am not in any way a better person now than i was 5 years ago.

This community is strange about personal hygiene.

Yeah, it's not unhygienic to sweat; it's unhygienic not to wash. If your pits smell really bad, there could be a buildup of bacteria, in which case you should exfoliate with some type of chemical exfoliator. Or you need to drink more water. But also, it's normal to smell a bit like sweat if you've been sweating; even when I used hardcore antiperspirant, I would still smell a bit sweaty by the end of the day.

she said she could smell him from far away so he probably smelled bad. Some people don't need deodorant, some don't need to use it daily, and some need to even after showering and cleaning their pits.

That’s been my understanding as well, that it’s the not showering and keeping yourself clean that means you’re then going to smell really rancid and cheesy when you start to sweat, but otherwise just sweating in itself shouldn’t smell all that bad if you are washing regularly?

Personally I do use deodorant though, but those people who really stink and you can smell them from a mile away most likely have other hygiene issues causing it, I imagine that what she’s talking about with Matthew is more of a natural musk kind of smell that she was attracted too

I saw this clip on TikTok already so I know what she said.

She said "I could smell him from a mile [away] because we were so close."

Who knows what that means? I went to the source and the No, no! in the beginning of her quote is in response to host asking if it was true that she asked MM to wear deodorant because he smelled bad.

Not wearing deodorant is not the same as smelling bad, and even smelling bad is not the moral failing some comments here are implying it is.

Exactly. Sweat doesn't actually smell, it's when it mixes with bacteria on your body that it becomes stinky. And obvs we all have some degree of bacteria, we need it, but like...exfoliate that shit.
