Obviously she wanted a hit after her last 2 albums didn’t do well commercially. She calculated it would be safe given Dr Luke has had some recent hits. But she mis calculated. The empty feminism of her new song is incongruent with working with an alleged rapist.
1) Doja and Kim Petras do not necessarily appeal to the same fanbases as Katy. Just because their fans let it slide doesn’t mean the fans of Katy / general pop wouldn’t let it slide without calling it out.
2) there’s an argument to be made (whether you agree or disagree) that Doja/Kim are in contracts with Luke so they’re culpability is somewhat in question because of it. Not to mention Katy is more famous and the bigger star. Katy has more status and power and control of her own career at this point and had 0 legal binding to continue working with him. She just didn’t care about anything else than getting a “hit” so…

Edit: Petras told NME she had “a really good experience” working with Luke and would “totally” do it again, adding, “I would like my fans to know I wouldn’t work with somebody I believe to be an abuser of women.” She later tweeted that her positive experience with Luke “does not negate or dismiss the experiences of others or suggest that multiple perspectives cannot exist at once.”
... so basically she semi backtracked
