while OP continues to hope she will work on her long ONTD original about Tumblr's greatest hits (including Dashcon), here's a post to remind us of everyone's favourite poorly planned con!
If you are not familiar with Dashcon, it was billed as Tumblr come to life, complete with impressive guests such as the Night Vale podcast creators and ND Stevenson, the creator of Nimona, who had to pay for the hotel and flights themselves, only to be told that they weren't being paid upfront. Night Vale refused to perform. ND Stevenson had to moderate his own panel because the moderator was absent. A lot of other stuff happened, but the iconic image everyone was left with was the Con organizers trying to sweeten the disappointment by giving people an extra hour in the ball pit. YES...that ball pit.

and a fun little anecdote about how the con organizers had the gall to solicit money from fans who already paid to be there to order pizza on behalf of the con (after NV refused to perform):
