Warner Bros Discovery is Sabotaging Last Week Tonight With John Oliver

Jul 08, 2024 11:54

Does anyone know why the first NINE SEASONS of @LastWeekTonight have vanished from @StreamOnMax?

Only two seasons are now on Max. The first eight can be purchased for extra $$ on @PrimeVideo.

Season Ten is on Apple+. Nine is NOWHERE.

Temporary? Or just Warner Bros being crap? pic.twitter.com/6au3VRguzT

wow. not shocking.

i've always respected and appreciated how their main stories have been uploaded directly to youtube with each new episode, and i'm glad John Oliver was able to get the rights to the show so they could share them with the world (ideally without geoblocking jesus fucking christ).

when did they start delaying those uploads? i thought I remembered those videos being uploaded maybe the day after new episodes aired? i certainly remember sharing those videos here and emailing them to family or dropping them in discord chats but like... wow.

i better catch up with this season before it disappears into the ether.

I think they started delaying releases of the main story to YouTube at some point with the current season. They're like a day or two later than it airs

[Also tbh delaying the YouTube releases is also just a general strategy to try to get his viewers to subscribe to HBO. Similar to how Netflix will split Bridgeton seasons into two month releases so that they can hang onto you for a least one more month]

Yeah the main story used to go up in a few days, now they only go up at the end of the season.

But I recently saw LWT uploaded a crap ton of videos on their main channel - full episodes, which is awesome.

I live in a different country and get the full episodes on his official channel within hours of them airing. I didn’t realize I had that privilege until I tried linking a friend back home to it and he couldn’t view it.

How does YouTube do with VPNs?

i use adblock's VPN and i kept disabling it because of youtube's war on ad blockers

the only thing i've recently used a VPN for is to watch british pottery competition shows on channel 4's website
