2x4: The Red Dragon and the Gold In Rhaenyra and Daemon's absence, Rhaenys tries to steady the Black Council as Cole mounts a campaign into the Crownlands.
I do understand what you mean because I feel like HOTD has fallen into its own trap: they initially established a character to have a very very very bad characteristic (he canonically raped that maid) on his very first appearance as TGC. But now the character has shown more layers and nuance and you can't help but feel for him because he is so obviously a product of his fucked up family. BUT THE THING REMAINS, that the memory of his victim crying before his mother is still TOO recent and frankly too triggering for some people.
I haven't read the books, but I feel like the show shot itself on the foot by giving us so many and such undeniable clues that this man is sexually violent. Because then when they try to take him towards the road where he is now, it's hard to shake that memory. And Aegon fans on twitter babying the character doesn't help. THAT is the difference this character has with the examples you and I mentioned. No one stanned and/or lusted after them in the sort of woobified manner that they do after Aegon. And this is because Tom Glynn-Carney is insanely talented and attractive (so is Ramsay Bolton but I don't believe his fandom ever manifested in this way?)
