[a quick recap]In May, Maggie Steffens, the captain of the U.S. women's water polo team and three time Olympic gold medalist, posted on Instagram about how many Olympic athletes, particularly women, have two or three jobs and still have to rely on sponsors and donors to cover the costs of travel, accommodations, nutritional support, rent/lodging, etc. Flavor Flav saw Maggie's post and offered to sponsor the entire team's trip to the Olympics. While the financial details were being worked out, he began his new role as the team's self-appointed hype man, posting about the team as well as the individual players.
Last week, Flavor Flav met the women's water polo team in person and attended one of their matches (he also sat in the announcer's booth for part of the match). He will be joining them in Paris as they attempt to win an unprecedented fourth consecutive gold medal.
The legal people finished ironing out the contracts so last week he finally signed a five-year sponsorship deal that makes him both a sponsor and the official hype man for the USA Water Polo Women's and Men's National Teams. As part of this sponsorship, Flavor Flav will make a financial contribution to the 2024 USA Women's Water Polo Olympic Team. His role as an official hype man includes multiple appearances annually at USA Water Polo events and will feature extensive social media collaboration to amplify the sport's reach and engage new audiences.
Flavor Flav's statement: "Supporting USA Water Polo teams is an honor. As a girl dad and a champion of all sports, I'm excited to bring my energy and voice to this incredible sport. Niche sports often don't get the spotlight they deserve, but they are packed with incredible talent and heart. Together, we're going to make some serious waves!"
When Maggie & Flav did an interview on CBS Mornings, he announced that each of the team members will be getting an all expenses paid weeklong cruise anywhere in the world on Virgin Voyages and a $1000 cash bonus.
