Critics don't hate Camila Cabello's 'C,XOXO'

Jul 02, 2024 10:12

Despite its era getting off to a rocky start, Camila Cabello's fourth studio album, C,XOXO, isn't exactly getting ripped to shreds by critics. Released June 28, it currently holds a Metascore of 61 based on eight reviews that trend toward praising Cabello's songwriting while receiving her new sound at varying temperatures.

"A transitional record mistakenly labeled as a statement album... an evolution that squares nicely with Cabello's stated ambition to be thought of not simply as a performer but as a writer, the author of a more complex and explicitly adult narrative than she's told before." ★★★ -Pitchfork

"Some of 2024's most anticipated pop albums have sunk pretty fast after hyped roll-outs; this one deserves to keep bubbling to the surface for months to come." ★★★ -NME

On ‘C,XOXO’, Camila Cabello tries a party girl rebrand and a shiny, Auto-Tuned sound on for size. She also indulges a “rebellious mood” with head-scratching Drake collaborations. Read NME’s ⭐️⭐️⭐️ album review ahead of its Friday release https://t.co/wEZm94xKjv

REVIEW: 'C, XOXO' is a feisty, hungry album that feels fearless even as it grapples with the unknown-the late-20s paradox turned into candy-coated pop.

"A welcome transformation on the heels of a career that has been largely devoid of anything... not neat. It's sonically daring, and challenges itself to be both unique from the scene and true to its creator." ★★★★ -Sputnikmusic
