Ted Lasso's downfall was crazy and I want someone to write an article about it. I didn't watch it but I remember my boyfriend being OBSESSED and then one day he just never mentioned it again.

lol this was me but I didn’t even finish, I just read episode recaps to see if I missed anything but none of them made me want to finish.

And I am all for an investigative article lol

honestly, it's downfall in quality can literally be chalked up to the fact that jason sudeikis took main creative control over the show lol. there was a huge puck article about it and i made a post about it but yeah. he was re-writing scripts and arcs and being a perfectionist about it and it just failed. it needed a steady hand and sudeikis did not have that much experience running a show: https://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/124289610.html

Now this is interesting. Thank you for the link! Was the show cancelled by the network or was it always meant to end in season 3? I was always confused about that.

no appletv+ would've loved to keep having episodes of the show, it's still regularly the top performing show on the platform. but sudeikis insisted the show end at season 3, that it was what he had always planned for the show.

I heard he eventually admitted thar the downer ending was due to his own mindset following the end of his relationship with Olivia. Like, man, why did you make that everybody else's problem 😭

Ted's arc in the second season was literally just Jason writing himself a therapy session about his kids and divorce. lmao.

i watched ted lasso last year and i definitely think it was a time-and-place thing bc i found the show to be toothless & boring

I believe it was a very comforting lockdown-era show that maybe doesn't hold up for someone not looking for that same degree of escapism
