I’ve been waiting for a JPop post!

I’m not a huge pop music fan, so does anyone know of some good folk punk/punk/ska/indie Japanese bands they want to recommend? Plz and thank you!

Maybe try Guitar Wolf, Fuji Fabric, Shinsei kamattechan, frederic. Besides Guitar Wolf, the others are more indie. When it comes to folk music I only know Japanese folk metal and enka, but I’m gonna look in to folk punk now lol

Checking them out now, ty! Folk punk is one of my favorite sub genres. I only know of ones from the US and UK. I'm learning Japanese, so I want some bands to practice my listening skills with lol

I honestly want folk punk/punk from every country. I'm only listening to boring English (affectionate) speaking bands, I need to branch out!

I only knew a few punk bands 🥲 10-FEET (I love Dai Zero Kan, and they just released a new song gg Sanzen last week), HEY-SMITH (SAY MY NAME, Rest in Punk), ELLEGARDEN who just resumed activities last year after 15 years of hiatus (Mountain Top, Red Hot, Salamander).

For more indie styles - I guess BBHF which is Yuki Okazaki (from Galileo Galilei)'s another project.

speaking of japanese music, did anyone else see the controversy over the mrs. green apple video? i only caught screenshots but Wow.

i have a lot of nostalgic love for ayu, but i can't say any of her recent offerings have done anything for me.

Yes I saw it on twitter too! That was very nasty of them and their excuse was just ridiculous. Glad I don't listen to them much ugh

Re:ayu, same here actually... Aurora was a bit better than her last song, but it's still a miss for me. 😢

I was obsessed with Harmonia when I was watching Naruto back in the day. Such a cute song.

Also I am so surprised that Kana Nishino is coming back. I thought her hiatus would surely turn into some unaddressed eternity!

Omg me too!! Harmonia and Ryuusei were my fave Naruto themes!

I didn't expect Kanayan to come back either, hopefully one day Namie will do the same... 🥹

I was never really in to Nishino Kana but I looked back on some of her songs recently and I was like wow they really are nostalgic. I always felt like overseas jpop fans underestimated her popularity.

Not this week but I kind of like Miyase Ryubi’s new song!

I remember some people said on Arama years ago that she was like the TSwift of Japan, but I'm not sure if they meant her music or her popularity lmao. I do think Kanayan's definitely one of the biggest act in 2010s though!! Her music was EVERYWHERE and she was probably amongst the trend setters in makeup/fashion world as well.
