i saw IG commenters saying that Francesca's book is their fave because she struggles with infertility (which i honestly barely remember) and her love interest being a woman would "ruin" that. I'm guessing it's like, 20% projection from readers who have gone through that but the straights not being ok for the other 80%.
it's particularly funny to me because it's not like bridgerton is all that good at actually adapting what's in the books, and the books are also kinda bad (and dated as hell)
they love to fall back on that as if she can't struggle with that with john. but it's even funnier because julia quinn admitted that she completely forgot to even mention if they ever had a kid or not because it wasn't important to their love story lmao
i haven't heard this! thank you for sharing-- this is so fucking funny to me. the readers being like "I really connected with the infertility story" and JQ just forgetting it entirely lmaoooo
She's also said Francesca's second epilogue might be her favorite thing she's ever written 🤷♀️ The theme of infertility is much stronger in that part. Probably the people who've read both don't see them as separate since Fran's book doesn't have the same kind of years later epilogue the rest of the books have. I don't think it's really as big a role as it's made out to be and honestly I think JQ simply didn't want Fran and John to have a child to complicate things between her and Michael just after writing a book where Eloise marries a single father, but I don't understand the need to downplay her struggle to conceive or the women who relate to the second epilogue
( ... )
Ah yes, because how could any queer person possibly understand, much less be a representation of the struggle of not being able to have kids of one's own?
As an infertile woman, please don't think the struggles of a queer healthy woman whose main concern is when to go to a fertily clinic and do the artificial insemination, something that requires little to no medical invention and mimimal medication, to a woman who is actually infertile.
I know ONTD hate kids, and hate women who want to be mothers, but as someone who´s spent YEARS doing IVF while many of my queer girlfriends got pregnant their first or second time being inseminated, this is so triggering.
