McDonald’s is ditching its drive-through AI ordering system after too many customers wound up with totally incorrect orders like a handful of butter, hundreds of chicken nuggets, and ice cream loaded with bacon https://t.co/svb3EhTpY1

Humans: 1, AI: 0

  • Implemented in 2021, AI is struggling to hear people shout from their windows, which meant the human employees still dishing out food would give the wrong orders - like a handful of butter, hundreds of chicken nuggets, and ice cream with bacon
  • This was an McDonald's partnership with IBM, which has its own problems.
  • It'll be back for sure, because you gotta cut that human labor and send us all to an early grave from lack of money, but they "hope to make an informed decision" by the end of the year.
The article also states that Wendy's has began using AI to adapt the menu - not the price fluctuations (yet), but suggestive selling based upon the weather.
