this kind of shit cracks me up

i live in the US but in a place where 99% of the house and lodges don't have a/c because we're at 9000ft+ elevation in one of the consistently coldest places in the country, theres only one or two weeks out of the year where it might actually be wanted, and i have heard so many stories from my friends who work in hospitality about people freaking the absolute fuck out when they find out theres no a/c it's wild

if you can handle having no conveniences and don't mind waking up an hour earlier through the winter to thaw out the well house with a hairdryer when it's -30, it's the place for you! i have literally turned into the grinch though and get annoyed when theres another person within ten miles of me, i was more social when i lived in interior alaska lol

-30 does sound ROUUUUGH tho lol. But at least I’d have an excuse to be anti social vs now 😝

I live in the southern Appalachians and if it gets to 90 here that's insane. Only like half the houses in my neighborhood have anything more than a bedroom AC unit. My house, thankfully for my cold-loving self, was renovated and central AC installed before I bought it, replacing baseboard heating and window units.

Conversely, in my part of Appalachia, everyday in June has been 90 degrees or above, and this isn't even the hottest part of the summer yet 😭

What elevation are you at? I'm at 2200 but just 30 miles away at <1500 they've been getting 90 after 90.

We're at 1700 but June has been awful! So hot. Conversely, our May was a bit unseasonably cool with lots of cold nights forcing me to actually run HEAT. Mountain weather, man. Can't predict it lol.

Meanwhile at 6000 feet+ around here it's lucky to get above 75 and there are still lows in the 40s some nights LMAO. You run the entire gamut of east coast weather patterns depending on elevation here. But it sucks more that we're about to go into a drought when we're supposedly a temperate rainforest.

So many people think I'm crazy for not having an AC in my apartment. I live in an area with only a few very hot days, and even then, I've always been fine just using fans. It's never seemed worth the cost to me.

I have a portable AC that I roll out for the 2-3 weeks where indoor temps reach 80+ degrees F, but it’s mostly for the pets. I would make do with fans and and lower energy bills otherwise. People used to clown on me for not having AC installed but I can’t afford that on top of the mortgage, we’re already lucky to have a house as-is.
