I know I'm not with the youth anymore because she seems to be "here" suddenly and all over my feed. In the maybe 4 days I've heard of her there's already so much discourse and I start to feel that artist that connect in any shape of form with an LGBTQIA+ sphère is doomed to be used as a vessel to attack some groups. First it was the str8 that shouldn't (?) be at her concerts, then it was the gays because it was a woman only event (??) then it's how her drag is more authentic than some Drag Race contestant (???) and I'm like 👁️👄👁️ I still have no idea what kind of music she makes and the fandom is already so annoying I don't feel like I should even listen to it lol

Why are you letting people sway you either way? People are always gonna be loud and wrong on the internet. If you wanna give her album a listen just do it.

It never happened to you? You hear about something or someone one day and don't think much of it but in the end, you know more about conversations concerning that thing/person than the art/craft/thing itself?

Not enough to let myself be annoyed into not seeing it for myself, nope!

Happened to me with Ariana Grande... I've only known her for Mariah Carey fans beefing with her etc etc.

I just went on to listen to a song of hers and found some of them cute listens. Im not like a YUGE fan, but I have some song of hers scattered in my playlists.

I've noticed internet discourse can ruin a lot of shit for you. Its just too much information, literally. It just increases cynicism in everything. Like for new artists you see all the worst fans. If you can, highly limit and censor your intake, trust me, it does wonders just for your mental health.

Idk about the first two, but I believe the last one was her stans getting mad a drag race contestant who said that her embrace of queer culture and drag queens was performative/using them to gain popularity. Which ofc is not true since Chappell is gay herself and has been performing with drag queens for years, but people always take this stuff too far lol.

At this point I’m glad I got to see her at Coachella, because I do agree the fandom seems really annoying. And her music is fun, she even says herself in this interview not to take things too seriously.
