It's not a need to bathe since you're clean from the shower, it's about enjoying a long hot soak in the tub without the threat of dirty water.

As another user mentioned, that's how Japan does it - I don't know that I'd be personally thrilled to share bathwater with my parents and siblings, but at least it would be relatively clean?
