[Spoiler (click to open)]The way straight (and mostly white) women are screaming, crying, and throwing up over Francesca's love interest being a woman instead of a man like in the books is so deeply unhinged that you'd think the showrunner broke into their homes and kicked their dog. I cannot imagine wanting to see EIGHT seasons of pure heterosexuality. Of course, they are hiding behind "wanting book accuracy" to justify their bigoted tantrums, or even saying "they should have made a 9th sibling or do a spin-off of the gays from Queen Charlotte (two white men btw)".

"But there's homophobia in the Bridgerton world!!!" Bro, the Queen is a black woman and they dance to Pitbull songs. Plus the showrunner already confirmed that Francesca and Michaela will get their happily ever after like all the other couples.

I wasn't even going to touch this show, but I'll support the gay season when it comes. And I doubt they'll get canceled, everyone said that the Penelope season was going to flop, and look at it now.

I'm not surprised about the Francesca hate. The fandom has a very vocal conservative white women contingent who are the worst. In season 2 there was a disgusting amount of racism levelled at both Simone Ashley and Charithra Chandran, homophobia at Jonathan Bailey and this weird fake emphasis on purity within the fandom.

Like someone wrote a fic where Kate was not a virgin and it was reviled, the author had to private their account, everyone was screaming about "realism" when if this show was realistic there would be more Christianity, cousincest and STDs.

I still don't get how Bridgerton managed to amass a large white Conservative following when the premise of the show is a race blind Regency fantasy...

like its cute escapism that lightly touches on racism in its spin-off but then is like 'nvm dw about it, we solved it through true love'.

the race blindness allows a certain type of conservative to be fine with it even though the rumors Benedict was getting a dark skinned Black love interest was too much for even them

[Spoiler (click to open)]I watch very casually, but you can BET I'll be watching Francesca's season and stanning it. I've already seen comments online from people purporting to be LGBTQ+ and saying they don't support this, and I just have to fucking laugh because you know it's some white woman in nowhere America pretending and typing this shit.

Sapphics are always thrilled when we get more rep in media. There's already so little for us out there that isn't getting cancelled or treated like an afterthought. Who the fuck cares if it isn't true to the book?! Don't they realize they can go and watch the dozens of other shows that cater to their straight sensibilities. We have practically nothing right now in mainstream tv so I'm excited.

[Spoiler (click to open)]The "I'm queer and I think this is forced" people are so transparent. When the Francesca/Michaela season arrives, I will be seated the second it's up on Netflix and eating up every promo tour interview.

Oh me too! I'm way tooo old now but maybe I'll even feel inspired to get into fandom stuff again like making gifs and voting in polls 😂

I hope they get a lot of love. I’ve been part of too many W/W ships that don’t get love because it’s not two white women. My TL is filled with positive comments and I hope it remains that way when it’s their season.

Still forever bitter about Thundergrace!! Excellent point though. I'm hoping the fact that Bridgerton is a pop culture juggernaut will cause everyone to jump on board because of FOMO. But yeah wlw fandoms are definitely not exempt from racism and it's tiring and so dumb because so many good ships are slept on when we don't even have that many ships in the first place!

I loved Thundergrace so much. Still sad they cancelled after Grace finally became part of the main cast.

I can't edit my comment but this is reminding me of the reaction XO Kitty got when Kitty realized she was bisexual. Suddenly "it's forced" and "not everything has to be gay" comments were everywhere. Having a bisexual woc as the lead is such a positive thing but the bigots couldn't stop themselves from complaining.

i always love the just make an original character!!!

because even if they did make an brand new character, they’d say the exact same shit they’re saying now. they don’t want our stories being told. period.

cry more about the historical accuracy of a show featuring the music of taylor swift and ariana grande.

i’ll be there for that character’s season day one.

Yeah, if they created an entirely new Bridgerton sibling or a cousin and gave them a full season dedicated to them and their queer love story, fans would still complain and say they're overshadowing their book faves.

they totally loved the side character gay butler who got an ambiguously unhappy ending so they can't be homophobic.....

“i’m okay with gays as long as they’re not shoved down my throat.”

side characters they can ignore? fine.
funny gay best friend? sure.
butt of the joke? even better.
