If anyone has recommendations for protein powders or similar products that don't use animal products and ALSO do not have chickpea/garbanzo/pea/lentil proteins, that would be amazing. I have been searching for years, and maybe things are getting better but almost every product I've come across has one of those, and I'm allergic to a lot of shit, unfortunately. Rant incoming...
I have been really struggling with this topic for years... I'm a fucking hypocrite because when I ask myself, would I really kill an animal myself to eat it? Hell no. But I have 100% been raised in a culture that has normalized shifting that monstrous task to someone else, so I don't have to see it/do it/deal with it in any way, I just get a nicely-packaged/cooked/seasoned bite of food, and then I move on with the rest of my day.
I use the excuse that I have been struggling just to maintain my weight and rebuild bone my entire adult life, and I got sucked into the "animal products are healthier for you because we evolved while consuming them" part of the wellness-grifter space. Every single healthcare professional has shut down my inquiries into how I can gain weight and build bone without consuming animal products, by implying that I'm restricting my diet further and then constantly asking if I might be dealing with anorexia. My diet is restricted because of a complicated mix of food allergies/chronic inflammation and who knows what else, that's why I'm fucking seeking your professional advice in the first place. I can't even bring up the topic of cutting down MY OWN dairy usage without my medical professional-filled family members sounding the alarm about how I'm going to lose more weight and I can't afford to get weaker. I'm not even proselytizing to anyone else about their food choices, I'm just saying MY conscience can't handle this anymore, it's untenable.
I use pumpkin seed protein powder and it's mild tasting, and nothing added. I can't tolerate soy, and I've tried the pea protein (couldn't deal with the taste). The brand I use is called Horbaach.
