It's frustrating and I'm not surprised it still happens in 2024. Hollywood barely tries to hide the double standard of still letting straight people play queer roles all the time (you can usually tell by their face when they kiss a same-sex actor) while gatekeeping queer people because it's "not believable".

I just remember how the kissing in that movie, from all the pairings, felt all the same and very choreographed. Nothing ever felt passionate or chemistry-induced despite the dramatic music telling me it was.

this may be controversial but I think its because of intimacy coordinators. its a relatively new thing on movie sets but I do think it contributes to making scenes sterile. It's like another person looking over your shoulder which might make an actor hesitant.

don't get me wrong, I don't think intimacy coordinators are bad or should be eliminated but rather that the role is new and has year to go before they figure out what works best.

oh whoops. I thought both those actors were gay because they always seem to be making out with other dudes in film.
But now that I think about it, I could not gather from the scene if Patrick was in love with Art and was super into kissing him, or if they were just going for it because Zendaya was there. Maybe a gay actor would have put some more oompf into it. It was just kind of "smoosh smoosh". :/

Oh man, so many straight actors just do not put their pussies into it.

Yep! And they're always the first to be like "an actor should be able to play any role they want" and it's like babe you can't even kiss someone convincingly but keep talking out of your ass 🙄🙄🙄
