Max the cat has been a staple of the Vermont State University’s Castleton campus the last four years.
So it seemed like an obvious next step when the university bestowed an honorary doctor of “litter-ature” degree upon him.

June 5, 2024 Max, a 6-year-old tabby cat, has officially received his honorary degree from Vermont State University, and he is now a Doctor of Litter-ature.
He’s been visiting Vermont State University’s Castleton campus ever since his owner, Ashley Dow, began letting him out of the house, which is within walking distance of the school.
Maurice Ouimet, the school’s dean of admissions and enrollment services, said the university doesn’t award doctorates to people, making Max an extremely special member of the community.
Rob Franklin, the school’s social media manager, was the one who came up with the idea to make the beloved cat part of the class of 2024.
The furry graduate even has his own school email and
directory page.
