with child custody, do you have to force a parent to spend X amount of time with a kid? I know monetary you can but can you require physical time too?

Under the law in England/Wales (Alyson lives in London I believe) there is no such mechanism. You can't force a parent to see a child.

I mean what's the point. If a parent can't bring themselves to care enough to willingly spend time with your kid do you want to force that time on them? At least with money the other parent can make good decisions about using it on the kid.

Oh I agree! My father never fought for custody for us but also my mom never forced it so I was always kind of unclear legal wise.
