-Kennedy, who is Cambodian American, is the first Asian American to win the title and the first military spouse as well.

-"I knew that it was going to mean a lot for all the LGBTQ kids out there who might feel like they don’t belong in a box - like me growing up," she says.

-The pageant has allowed trans contestants for over a decade. Kataluna Enriquez was Miss Nevada USA in 2021. Spain also sent a trans competitor, Angela Ponce, to Miss Universe in 2018. Both were the first to hold their respective titles.

Plus-sized model, Sara Milliken, 23, is making headlines after being crowned Miss Alabama over the Memorial Day weekend.

-Sara was met with a barrage of hate online, with people branding her an 'unhealthy embarrassment' and questioning: 'Is that actually considered attractive in Alabama?'

-This is not her first time competing in the pageant as she competed for the crown twice before, scooping the win on her third try.

-'I plan to shatter glass ceilings in pageantry to create a path for other women to chase their dreams- no matter their shape or size.'
