Something like Cocaine Bear where it's clearly comical is fine. Something like Annihilation where the bear is genetically modified and diseased is terrifying.

I was going to say this exact scene with the bear from Annihilation! I saw it by myself in a small theatre (with others there), and I swear after the scene was over I felt everyone in the theatre let out a collective sigh that the bear was gone. Still my favorite movie.

and it's always BEARS. I don't care if you genetically mutate a dog or toucan, it's sad but that's it. For some reason when it's a bear it absolutely creeps me out, probs bc they're bipedal.
