Yeah when he pins her I was like "!!!...oh where is this going :||" but then she pins him and then that whole tussling in the grass.
I was kinda confused if she's saying she had been in a relationship like that OR is she using it as a metaphor for how chaotic relationships can be in cases where there isn't actual violence cause I've seen other artists use violence in that way. Off the top of my mind I'm thinking of Florence + the machine's Kiss with a Fist where Florence had to come out and say it's not about domestic violence but how explosive emotions can be in relationships:
"It is about two people pushing each other to psychological extremes because they are fighting but they still love each other. The song is not about one person being attacked, or any actual physical violence, there are no victims in this song. Sometimes the love two people have for each other is a destructive force. But they can't have it any other way, because it's what holds them together, they enjoy the drama and pushing each other's buttons. The only way to express these extreme emotions is with extreme imagery, all of which is fantasism and nothing in the song is based on reality."
But I will say Billie's does seem to be more direct about the turbulence so idk :|
Yeah I feel like if she says it's open for interpretation it's a bit of a cop-out. Although if she was going for "open for interpretation" then it would've been more ambiguous than what it was.
Even the scenes with her arguing with the first guy in the clinic was also pretty volatile. I thought they were gonna throw down lol.
I also felt the same.. it was disturbing, without a doubt. I don't like it when violent stuff gets played off as vague, there's enough gaslighting handling that topic as it is. I think it's reckless and I also hope she'll say something.

I'd rather her say it is about an abusive relationship or a very toxic and turbulent one.
Not that she has to, obviously.

I do think overreacted, though. At least a bit?
It was the first thing I did/watched after I got home from yet another hellish day at work. I hadn't fully unwound yet.
Oof!
