An acquaintance of mine was supposed to have an unilateral mastectomy and she said her consultation essentially revolved around how they would recreate her boob, but then she was like fuck it, take both boobs and lower my risks of getting cancer again. Everyone tried to convince her she was going crazy until she had enough and said 'my kids can deal with a boobless mom, they'd have a much harder time dealing with a dead mom'. I've always thought that was so fucking badass and it's been 15 years or so and she's still cancer free <3 I really respect her (and Angie) for making such a brave choice.

I read about her surgery on Reuters at the time and whoever wrote that article did a fantastic job. I was crying by the time I got to the end, thinking about about how insanely brave she is for getting preventative surgery for her children's sake. She didn't have any traces of cancer yet but she has the gene and knows with absolute certainty that it's genetic and a ticking time bomb.
