"My not doing it wouldn't help anyone" - literally it would though? Maybe I am misreading this, but I think Club Delulu let one out of summer camp early.

At this point I'm cynical enough to think that she means that if it wasn't her, it would just be another nepo baby cause that's what production wants, not legit talents, just guaranteed optics.

Lol maybe that's it? Like I thought maybe I was misinterpreting her statement but every time I read it, it still felt really arrogant and sort of "let them eat cake".

I'm assuming she means that it wouldn't help make the system more fair, which is true. Obviously another person would get that one part, but it wouldn't necessarily fix the system. Even if every nepo baby quit, Hollywood would still be all about connections and looks and favors and never really a true meritocracy, unfortunately. You're right that she worded it terribly though.

Yeah I think you and the other commenter are probably correct about the intention but oof it comes off poorly!

Yeah I'm only guessing her meaning from what she was trying to say in the rest of the quote (that if she tried to do it the "right" way it doesn't really help anyone else but her own conscience), but if there's only that phrase alone it comes off really badly

That makes more sense. I'm probably just jaded bc of all the really awful takes on this from other nepotism benefitters as well lol.

Yeah most of the responses have been really bad, which is crazy because it's been asked so many times and it's very clear what works and what doesn't. Like all you have to say is "of course I benefit from my famous connections, and I also try and work hard to be deserving of those opportunities" and that's the end of that. Then you can just talk about your work instead of trying to defend yourself.

Why don't any nepo babies other than like Allison Williams seem to have any PR training lol?

Maybe they don't have PR because they don't need a promoter or whatever to get the jobs?

Well PR is more for image control, not so much getting jobs. And the more famous you are the more you need them. I think celebrities now are trying too hard to be "real" and "authentic" but what they're actually doing is sticking their foot in their mouth on a global platform lol.

I've done several puff piece interviews for my volunteer work where I can't possibly say anything that bad and the audience is pretty small but I still have my friends go over my answers with me to make sure I don't sound too ridiculous. Which I'm super thankful for because apparently a bunch of people at my regular work saw one of the interviews and commented on it the next day x_x They were all very sweet though.
