Cute congrats to them, glad that the mom is doing well after. That is a nice name for a boy.

So random thought but I've been trying to understand why male pro athletes have so many children.
Like, from hockey to baseball to basketball, their wives are always pregnant and then in a few years, they have 4-5 kids.

Other than the fact that they can afford it and these children are in what I hope are in loving environments, the wives are just having babies, that's it.

They produce higher amounts of testosterone and that makes them want to breed more.

Well, the cynical part of me says the women sign a prenup but they can’t sign away their rights to child support. Or if they never marry and they split, they’re not owed spousal support but will get child support.

Also, “family image” is big in sports. Why? Idk they all cheat and are awful otherwise, but being a family man works no matter the industry.

This 100%, the image (and brand) is the most important thing, and then when they retire, that family, all those kids, are part of their legacy.

As for that cynical part, I get what you're saying, it sounds like some kind of financial security for the mother and that gives me the ick.

I’m trying to understand why people want multiple kids in general. Not trying to be a hater but as someone who doesn’t even want one child, I guess I’ll never truly understand but what are the basic reasons? I maybe understand wanting two kids because you want them to have someone else and maybe three if your first two were the same gender. Idk idk. I guess there’s no logical reason.

I understand where you're coming from and I feel the same way. The only logical reason I can see is from the 'rich' perspective. These players make enough money to support that large family and it also increases their ~legacy~....kind of like royalty?
After all, pro-athletes are the royals of America.

That’s the only reason I could come up with too. At least for men because they love to spread their seed and want that selfish “legacy”. And I’m sure there’s a scientific reason for women who have that maternal need/instinct.

Mm yeah but I also remember that people aren't logical and there's no longer a logical reason to have any child, but biology hasn't caught up with "hey, you don't need 10 children to tend to the farm anymore".

Many people have them bc they want them and that's nice I guess, better than those following the heteronormative social script.

But that’s my question - why do they *want* them? And again, I don’t mean just one or two kids but 4, 5+?

I have to respect that because I’m an introvert who sometimes wants to engage in those big family events and bbqs and parties then decompress in my quiet apt while eating leftovers 😂

partially social conditioning. I'd say a solid 70% social conditioning.
