The airport does not fuck about. Taking drugs between countries is not generally a smart plan, unless you have a robust agreement and assurance that the country you're travelling to accepts it. People have got screwed over what may seem like 'everyday' medication, not realising it was a controlled substance in the country they were going to.

That's really fucked up if it was for depression though. As long as it's in a pharmacy package with her name on it I don't see what the problem is.

boa (korean superstar) got accused of drug trafficking because she works between korea and japan and brought her japanese prescription with her back to korea lol, its very...a lot. but also a lot of their drug trade stems from prescription drugs rather than "street drugs" so i do somewhat understand.

It was for Ritalin, not an antidepressants, and they allowed athletes to apply for an exemption to bring in the drugs

She was trying to bring Ritalin into Tokyo, not antidepressants. She was supposed to apply for an exemption (which she did do for Rio), which would have allowed her to bring the meds in

Ok that's more reasonable.

iirc Simone couldn’t bring her ADHD drugs into Japan because they’re completely banned there for everyone, Japanese and non-Japanese. her prescription can’t be sold in Japan nor brought into Japan. she didn’t get into any trouble though, she knew ahead of time and didn’t bring it.

I thought Ritalin (methylphenidate) and Concerta were allowed? I’ve been trying to research this for a trip.

I’m not 100% sure so you should definitely double and triple check, but it looks like you have to either bring under a certain amount or if you need to bring more than that amount get permission from the Japanese govt ahead of time.

Okay for sure. I will. I mean if I just have to wing it, I’ll wing it. I did that for like 30 years of my life. What’s another 2 weeks?

Would she be able at least to get it at a pharmacy in Japan? I know with the anti depressants meds I take, I take such a high dosage daily that I'll get sick if I don't. I've never traveled outside of the country, I had never thought about not being able to take my meds with me!
