During an interview with Waitrose & Partners’ Dish podcast last week, Dua Lipa confessed that she doesn’t go to therapy, but that astrology is more her speed. When asked how much does astrology dictate her life and if she makes a decision based on it, she had this to say: “Let’s put it this way, I don’t have a therapist, but I have an astrologist ( Read more... )

People who believe in astrology are morons and I think most people who say they don't really believe in it, they're just doing it for fun, are lying to themselves a bit.

I used to be a more accepting person, but 🤷🏼‍♀️

It is kind of silly to think that apparent planetary motion in the sky affects people. I don't really care if people believe it or not but telling me that when Mercury is in retrograde is why things are bad and it's dumb. Literally just looking like it's going backwards but it's not that Mercury is going backwards at all just looks like that in our sky from our reference frame.

For the most part I agree, it is largely just a fun and kooky thing (as long as you don't centre your entire personality around it). I think if people approach it in certains ways though, astrology can be a bit like therapy. It explores external influences on the self and maybe a degree of introspection. I appreciate the vast majority don't use it that way lol

Me too, until I realized we're essentially enabling denialism dressed as positivity and energy. I'm all for people believing whatever they want, but keep your astrology, religion and any other fanfiction you chose to believe away from issues that require actual knowledge and science, please.

I used to be a more accepting person, but

same, i am so done with this mishegas

still rolling my eyes at the person on top chef who asked when frank lloyd wright was born and then said, "ah a gemini." and then one of them said, "I hate gemini girls" to a gemini girl who was her partner in the upcoming challenge and they need to stop

I wouldn't say they are morons, but they are wrong ofc.

I'm also tired of misticism and religions, as a general, being something we can't criticize at all.

Same, like we cannot let them thrive. I think it’s all having a real heyday right now and it’s clearly filling a spiritual hole in people that would be be better served by just being in their communities and realizing we’re not all so special

Yeah, I have a problem with the people making money from it. Messing with people's lives and all.

I feel this way about people saying they're witches. No, you're not.

And astrology. You need real community and trauma therapy, not astrology.

idk i think i genuinely like it for just fun. ive done my chart online and if i see horoscopes in a magazine/newspaper/book I will read mine and loved ones and then move on with my day. i actually dont really know anything about astrology that isnt surface level, so its not something i take seriously or even think about day to day. for me it is light hearted.

It can be fun but some people just rely on it for everything and that's frustrating. don't like someone? it's cause they're the same sign as another person you had a bad interaction with. had a good day? it's cause that planet rotated and moved (like it's supposed to)

Like yes there are things in this universe we can't explain (yet!) but sometimes it's just you and you have to work on your personality and/or mental health instead. Or like take a quiet walk outside idk lol

It used to be fun, but its gotten too moronic. I saw an influencer say her face doesn't move because she is a Virgo. It's like nature and nurture don't matter any longer, just star signs.

the coopting of astrology by western culture is wack, but astrology is still a really important cultural cornerstone of a lot of populations, particularly some Indigenous and Hindu cultures.

there is pop astrology and quote unquote "real" astrology, and from the deeper dives i've done that were not "woo-woo" at all, it was actually really eye-opening and is much more psychology-based than you would think. like with tarot, it can be used to reflect back at you, elements of your personality, ways your lived experience has altered you, etc.

basically like most things, white people commercialized and ruined it :P
