omg i loved scotland for the views, it was beautiful. terrible food outside of Edinburgh and major cities. just flavorless and awful. i had what they called indian food and it was essentially pea soup.

i went to inverness last year and the fact that mcdonalds was the most packed food place by miles said enough to me. people were only in pubs to drink, the food options were... dire

my mom visited Scotland last fall, and when she came back and was talking about the food, she just kept saying "I didn't mind that we were often served chicken, I was just confused because while we were driving around the country side I failed to see any chicken coop!"

I ordered a jacket potato somewhere in the Highlands and it was topped with moldy unmelted cheddar.

The food dunks are so outdated tbh. Every time I've been to the UK it was easy to find food which was decent-really tasty, certainly easier than in the average American town.

The food insults are usually stereotypes. Literally the last time I saw someone here insult British food, it was about blood pudding. I’ve never eaten blood pudding in my life.

Yeah I never have either, and same with the jokes you frequently see about stuff like jellied eels, when’s the last time you ate jellied eels?! That’s a pretty old dish from the East End of London, most people today would agree that it sounds absolutely revolting, and same with the blood pudding. London has much better food to offer than that, it’s not the 19th century any more

I actually really like black (and white) pudding a lot. I just assumed I would hate it because I normally don't like that kind of thing but I figured I should at least try it, and I ended up loving it. Same with haggis

I haven’t tried either. They’re the type of food I’ve ruled out based on description alone lol.

I unironically love the traditional pub food dishes... steak & ale pie (!!!), fish'n'chips, shepherd's pie, bangers & mash, some roasted/braised pork with yorkshire pudding... and with the exception of one bland & soggy fish'n'chips in London, it's always been amazing and well-seasoned. I also love hearty meat & ale stews, although those seem to be harder to find (or regional, idk). Sure, none of that is considered healthy or anything, but if I'm splurging to eat out, I will indulge!

tbh I was never a fan of people making fun of regional (and traditional) food because it always depends on the geographical location of the land.

Same, and often if you've never been to that country or region and eaten the food in that environment, you won't get it.

Some ingredients don't travel well or the flavour's completely different in different regions.
