I mean, even now I'm still working on feeling confident saying to, I don't know, a colleague or someone like, 'Excuse me, I really need to use the restroom. I need to change my tampon. I really need to go right now.'

Do you really need to tell me why you need to go to the restroom? I really truly do not care about why you're going to the restroom.

I'm so glad I no longer have a period.

But also where’s the tampon? Is it in a purse? Is she now taking her purse into the bathroom? Is she grabbing one from her purse? I understand that we don’t need to know WHAT someone is doing in the can. I think this is a way to address a lot of women instinctively hide any sanitary product. WHY?!

Even if she whipped out her tampon from her purse, I wouldn't even think twice about it. People have periods. The only thing I care about when people go to the restroom is to just wash your damn hands.

One hundred percent. But how many women do you see whip out tampons or pads in public? Or how girls are embarrassed to buy them. Kids today have self checkout so they don’t know having to buy your pads from a classmate working as a cashier or bagger at the grocery store.
Hell, judy blume made bank off of the awkward adolescent puberty. I think it’s all to normalize all parts of periods even the terminology.

I honestly don't pay any attention to other peoples menstrual cycles, I never paid any attention to my cycle until it would randomly start. I was never embarrassed to buy them, and now you can get them online from amazon.

I think it's great to normalize it, I just really don't understand why she needs to explain to others why she's going to the bathroom. Just go to the bathroom and make sure wash your hands.

yeah i don’t announce i need to change my pad or whatever but for so long if i did need to i would feel so self conscious playing the game of like, do i hide it by just taking my bag or will taking my bag make it weird and they’ll ask why and i’ll have to explain and it’ll be my fault for having a body with these needs that i made them uncomfortable even though i was not trying to draw attention to it… now i still won’t announce or draw attention to it and sure i try to be discreet but at the same time i don’t tie myself up in knots freaking out that someone might see me not working hard enough to hide that i’m reaching for a pad. if i’m being normal about it and they choose not to be that’s on them!

When we were in highschool, my friend used to keep her pads in a 3 fold wallet (those with velcro), turns out the middle part is perfect for pads and no one batted an eye at her for rummaging through her bag for a wallet.

Fwiw, I keep mine in a purse like this https://www.otantik.ca/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/TRSUV-03.jpg
It's easy to find in my bag (even if you keep it disorganized like I do), and you can slip it into your pocket if you need to (and I also always keep a few extra painkillers in there, just in case).

I feel like that's a catch-22 like no one needs to know my business, but also could be the thing of when people know they suddenly start attributed behavior to it. Which is of course part of removing certain stigmas.
