How bizarre, did he tell you why he did it while still dating you? O.o I could understand someone doing it after a breakup to get revenge, or for their spouse to die faster so they can inherit their fortune... but for a boy/girlfriend it'd be a lot cheaper and actually efficient to just break up with them?

Yes, this was while we were still dating! I was the one that wanted to break up, but he would threaten his own life over it each time. So, I think the curse was to “punish me” for wanting to leave.
