Male doctors will give a month of strong painkillers to a vasectomy patient, and then Tylenol to a woman who just had her stomach stapled shut from a hysterectomy.

I am absolutely sick of misogyny.

I recently found out that from my friend that is a pharmacist that it's totally normal for doctors to give women ibuprofen 800mg but men get norco/opioids after wisdom teeth removal.

I had a really intense root canal, dr even said it’s one of the worst he’s done and got the just the giant ibuprofen. Which tbh I was ok with because I’m scared of getting addicted to pain pills and generally hate taking medicine but still. The fact that he didn’t even offer me a choice. And he was a nice dr who took me seriously too. It must just be so ingrained in the culture to do stuff like that that they don’t even notice they are doing it

That might just be a doc thing. I'm a woman and my experience mirrored your cousin's (put under for the procedure, got prescribed opoids).

I think that's what happened with me. I was told take OTC Ibuprofen & my Brother got a prescription for Oxycontin when his wisdom teeth were taken out.

I got Oxycontin when my Gallbladder was removed though.

I got a fat prescription for Norco with 2 refills ordered for my wisdom teeth removal. But that was back in 2004.

i had major emergency surgery 8 weeks ago now. whilst in hospital male doctors and nurses would only give me paracetamol whilst female nurses would give me something stronger. When i was discharged I was given 0 pain killers to take home (only 24 hours after surgery) it took callingaround different local gps to find a female doctor who would prescribe me some pain killers and she was horrified. (i got morphine and it still only slightly took the edge off the pain ) i saw her again last week and she said its pretty normal for her to get those requests from women because male doctors wont

Ugh, I’m so sorry. It’s stressful enough to have major surgery and when you should be resting you are stressing trying to find someone to help your pain 🧡🧡
