Anya Taylor-Joy only has about 30 lines of dialogue in "Furiosa," spent "months" not speaking on set and pushed director George Miller to let her scream on camera.

“I’ve never been more alone than making that movie. I don’t want to go too deep into it, but everything that I thought was going to be easy was hard.”

i wonder what she means by everything she thought was going to be easy?

If I had to somewhat guess. having fewer lines may seem easy but it forced her to act in a whole nother way that she didn't expect which was more emotionally draining?

Also, dialogue is the conduit for connecting with other actors on an emotional level. Which isn't to say that you can't communicate nonverbally with them, but it's often the starting point for that ping-pong.

In other interview she said he wanted her to only act with her eyes, almost no lines and basically try not to change much other facial expressions.

some of her fans have taken it to mean that George Miller was like. an abusive a-hole but in some of the posts about that quote i came across yesterday, people who have read the book on the making of Fury Road (which the author of this NYT piece wrote) noted that Miller is known to be a nice guy but he doesn't really bring the cast into the fold. they're not getting as much feedback or communication to the grander state of the film. Tom Hardy's diva acton that movie was only one of the reasons why it was so stressful, both he and Charlize spoke about not being fully looped into what the movie actually was until they saw the final product.

shooting for six months in the desert, in hot costumes and wigs, in hot cars. not a lot of dialogue, a character that's heavily traumatized, a director who is maybe not giving as much to his lead actress. i can see how it could put her in a bad place.
