It's been almost 4 years since Shawn Mendes has released a full studio album of new material. His last release, 2020’s Wonder only spawned 2 singles and failed to produce any major hits outside of his Justin Bieber collaboration ("Monster") that came and went like a fart in the wind. That album did debut at no. 1 in the US during its first week, making it his fourth consecutive no. 1 album, but fell to no. 25 in its second week and out of the charts soon after its release. Since then, he released a slew of singles ("Summer of Love," "It'll Be Okay," "When You're Gone") that underperformed and failed to reach highs such as his last major hit, 2019’s “Señorita” with his ex Camila Cabello. He also cancelled his Wonder: The World Tour in 2022 citing “mental health” issues. But yesterday, the Pickering singer told fans that he had finished recording his fifth studio album and that it was “coming soon.” Can Mendes make a successful comeback or is it time to hang it up, flatscreen?
