I’ve had acne since I was a teen. Only when I was about 26 did I try something that actually worked. I was put on tretinoin and it was brutal. It made my lips crack and bleed and I had weird scaly skin on my legs. It worked though and while I do still get acne, it’s not as bad. I could try the medication again, but I’d rather not.

People don’t talk about acne scars though. I was dismissed by the dermatologist when I asked about mine.

i agree regarding scarring. i've been fighting acne and mental problems that come with it half of my life. now acne is gone replaced instead by scars that still undermine my confidence and fuck up self esteem.
and it seems like the only solution is burning upper layers of skin which also could go a thousand ways wrong?

Look up hyaluronic acid injections and see if anyone does them near you.

Are these effective? I did like 5 sessions of microneedling to traumatise and force the skin to heal and they did nothing for my acne scars. And they’re not even that bad, like obviously I dislike them but they don’t affect my confidence much, so I was really disappointed that I saw zero difference.

I think they are, but they’re not miracle workers and they’re not permanent. If you can get them cheap enough, they’re worth it imo.

It’s pretty much the only thing that works. It removes upper layers of skin which allows new cells to grow. My friend had a pretty bad acne scars on both her cheeks and they’re pretty much gone after several treatments.

Did your friend have to hide away for a bit of recovery after each session? Unfortunately I can’t work remotely.

ETA I just Googled some before and afters and the results look good!

no, not really. it depends on how heavy the treatment is but there's some redness and slight pain/swelling that goes away in a few hours. make a consultation appointment with the local esthetician who does laser therapy and get all the answers before you commit to it.

Maybe try a skin booster such as PDRN/ Polynucleotide (injectables)? We have had clients with acne scarring that did 3 sessions and already noticed great improvements.

Other clients also have had fillers for deeper scar tissue (such as hyaluronic acid, poly-L-lactic acid, collagenstimulators).

Otherwise maybe laser sessions?

Don't give up tho and try to consult at different clinics.

My sister had pretty extreme ice-pick scarring from severe fungal acne but she saw great results from a few sessions of microneedling. After maybe 3 or 4 sessions, I'd say her scarring has faded by around 60%. Definitely worth it, if you can afford it (although admittedly, results vary - works great for some, not as much for others).

I’ve also had micro needling done a few times, plus a few other laser treatments and it’s helped my acne scarring tremendously

Yes, I'm 36 and I have acne scars from my teenage years, you have no idea the lifelong trauma and mental health issues it has and continues to cause me.
