Eurovision 2024: A Drama-Palooza

May 11, 2024 07:26

Eurovision, the yearly song competition between (mostly) European Countries is having a time right now. Most of the drama so far is surrounding Dutch entrant Joost Klein:

UPDATE: RTL news (a legit Dutch media network) has just announced Joost has been disqualified and will not be participating in the Finale tonight. Wow.

I've been following this on the subreddit since yesterday morning and it's frankly insane how nothing has been confirmed and the EBU is radio silent. This year was a shitshow from the start but there's a lot going on, and it's not even just Joost. I may have gotten some of this wrong, so feel free to correct me but here's some stuff I've heard:

Greece's performer has been feeling unwell and put her head down during the press conference while Israel's performer was speaking and she's apparently being torn apart in the press for doing so. She also said something about world peace and that was apparently viewed as controversial??? Latvia's performer also stated something about all countries deserving to be free in the press conference, though I'm not sure the response has been the same for him.

I've heard a lot about Israel's delegation behaving poorly and acting negatively towards various other performers, including Joost. There's a video floating around where he declined to be photographed with Eden and was videoed anyway. You can hear from uploads from people in the arena that Israel were also audibly booed but those boos were replaced with loud cheers in the second semi final telecast. I know Eurovision has filtered out booing since Russia's 2014 performance, but this was full on replaced and not filtered out.

A Spanish journalist said he felt unsafe for the first time in his 11 years covering Eurovision because he said "free Palestine" and Isaeli journalists proceeded to harass him about it. There were rumors about Spain wanting to drop out of the competition after that. The vibes are rancid all around, basically.

Marina yawning during genocide Barbie's interview was most definitely on purpose and she was posting the 🍉 emoji afterwards (she has also posted pro-Palestine things before). but the greek state broadcaster has clearly intervened to shut her up and Israel supporting right-wing trolls here are trying to raise a fuss bc she's there on state money. and that Israeli journalist harassing Joost also posted a photo yawning camped outside her dressing room

palestinian flags were banned by israel in the 60s, so since the watermelon’s become a placeholder-symbol for it because it has the same colors

belgium's contestant (who didn't go through to the finale) had "peace" written on the inside of his fore arm, which was shown when his button up shirt dropped near the end of his performance, and is now also being torn apart by zionists. all it said was "peace" for crying out loud lol

idk, I think, just like the conservative billionaires in the US, they believe they are unfairly persecuted because they are delusional and it is how they sleep at night.

ia bc their zionist ideology has brainwashed them into thinking they're somehow always the victims, even when carrying out atrocities
