I stopped watching after the first few episodes but I always wondered, was the boy they found actually their son or an imposter?

He was an imposter. He fled his abusive mother and ran for safety, pretending to be their kid so he could escape.

Then to top off this fucked up story, his mother shot and killed him after the truth was discovered.

The whole thing was wild and badly acted, and then they get to season 2 and do a low-grade reboot. It becomes an even more generic procedural. I don't understand how this one police department has so much money and power.
