I loved this book, no matter how cheesy and unrealistic and dog shit the politics are, but the movie was soooo soulless. Getting rid of Alex’s sister especially made no sense. The only part of the movie I genuinely enjoyed was Nick Galactica pretending to bottom bc he looked so pretty.
I really liked it too and I was so confused about some of the changes - why get rid of the sister? why change the Miguel character to an evil reporter? a lot of the depth of the book was just taken out and it's not like it had that much to begin with, it made it such an empty movie unfortunately :( I enjoyed their chemistry and the sex scenes as much as anyone else but damn
I watched a video that explained really well that they removed all aspects that made Alex especially human and that in turn made the movie feel a lot more lonely than it should have felt. Since the author of the book was v chronically online back in her fandom days, I hope she still is and has seen those criticisms lol and hopefully that will make for a good sequel.
that's a really good point! Alex was supposed to be this very outgoing, popular guy but he just seemed to be alone a lot of the time, plus his intense love for politics and campaigning sort of fell by the wayside. it made him more of a character than a human, exactly that! let's hope she sees it indeed :)
