And her explanation is that she forgot how to pronounce the designer's name because "it's a little bit complicated." His name is Sensen Lii. It's three syllables, two of which are the same. How is that complicated?
In the same video, she also said that she described him as "Asian" because she didn't know if he was Chinese, Korean, or Vietnamese so in her eyes, she was being respectful by not naming the wrong country. It's appalling to me that she would ask someone to spend two months making this humongous custom gown and not once ask her team, his team, or the internet for details like that.
Exactly. This designer put months of work for what I'm guessing was zero pay in exchange for exposure at a fashion event. The absolute very least you can do in exchange for getting a free dress that cost thousands of dollars/hours to construct is to say the designer's name on the red carpet.
Being a smaller designer in the midst of all these couture houses and having your work worn by a major celebrity is a big deal... only for said celebrity to not do the only thing she has to remember which is mention your name or brand. As a fellow dehsigneuuur, I would be livid.
Not surprised. This isn't her first instance of being racist to Asians. This is the woman who called her daughter chinky because she has angular eyes, and then doubled down when people called her out for it. Of course she couldn't be assed to remember any information about an Asian person, regardless of the fact that she literally worked with him.

For the Met Gala, it's literally the ONLY thing you need to remember!
